IT is with immense sadness and a heavy heart I write to convey to you that we have lost our father and president, His Royal Highness, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Azlan Shah.
His Royal Highness lived an exceptional life and graced many stages with distinction and honour. An accomplished lawyer, he became Lord President of Malaysia, the highest judicial position in the country. He served the country as the ninth king of Malaysia.
A keen sportsman, hockey always had a special place in his heart -- as a player and as an administrator. He served as president of the Malaysian Hockey Association for 21 years and as the president of the Asian Hockey Federation from 1990. He leaves an indelible mark on countless people and the AHF.
In remembering him, may we recall and be inspired by the principles of decency, courtesy, loyalty, fidelity and the highest and best principles of sport and humanity he represented.
We extend our prayers and heartfelt condolences to the family of His Royal Highness, the people of Perak, the citizens of Malaysia and all members of the Asian Hockey family and world hockey.
