Sultan Azlan Shah (1928-2014): Great loss to the nation

THE country has lost a great ruler and statesman in Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah.

He was a visionary leader.

We salute his ways in dealing with matters before him.

We learn of his great legacy to hockey.

He had founded a hockey tournament that brings the world's top teams here every year.

Sultan Azlan had also set up Yayasan Hoki Malaysia to turn national players into doctors, engineers and other professionals.

A lawyer by profession, Raja Azlan had served as Federal Court judge and lord president.

I have read that his judgments were always simple, yet systematic, as described by Chief Justice Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria.

May God bless his soul.
